Before You Book Vietnam With Kids and Grandparents Check the Transfers

A quiet moment on the water during our Vietnam trip. Photo supplied by the author.

Vietnam offers plenty to share across generations. The tricky part is moving everyone between airports, hotels, and sightseeing stops. Our November 2025 route used four bases, with at least three nights at each. Here is a gentler way to follow it with children and older parents.

Protect the first three nights for recovery, choose one main outing a day, and keep transfer days light. Arrange transport for the whole group, including luggage and mobility equipment. A comfortable hotel is part of the trip.

The Flight and Drive Itinerary

Illustrated Vietnam route. Depart Washington Dulles on November 28 for Saigon. Ground transfer to Sóc Trăng for November 30 to December 3. Transfer to Cần Thơ and fly to Hanoi December 3. Drive to Ninh Bình December 7. Transfer and fly back to Saigon December 10. Depart Saigon December 13. Four stays total thirteen hotel nights. Connections are simplified.

Fly from Washington Dulles (IAD) to Saigon (SGN), then continue by road to Sóc Trăng. On December 3, transfer to Cần Thơ (VCA) and fly to Hanoi (HAN). Drive to Ninh Bình on December 7. Return to Saigon by airport transfer and flight on December 10, then depart SGN on December 13.

Our hotel sequence was Net Viet Hotel, Sofitel Hanoi, Green Bay Hotel Ninh Bình, and Vinpearl Landmark 81. The stays were three, four, three, and three nights. Leave generous buffers around flights and avoid adding a major attraction to a transfer day.

What Most Families Miss

Accessibility depends on the exact room, vehicle, and activity. Confirm step-free access, bathroom layout, and boarding arrangements directly. A seated boat trip still involves getting into a boat. Request airline assistance when booking and reconfirm every flight; Vietnam Airlines publishes different advance-request deadlines by booking method.

Before booking another trip, review current entry requirements through Vietnam’s official e-visa portal. Use the hotel’s own accessibility information and ask for the features your family needs in writing.
