Japan’s Shinkansen bullet train has specific luggage rules. Bags with total dimensions (H + W + D) under 160 cm (~63”) can be stored on overhead racks without a reservation. Bags between 160–250 cm require a free advance reservation for an “oversized baggage area” seat. Bags over 250 cm are not allowed on the train at all.
