  • D-Link Wi-Fi Water Leak Sensor Starter Kit (SW-A11KT) — Monitors two locations out of the box. Master unit plugs into a wall outlet with a 1.5 ft sensing cable. Battery-powered remote pod fits under sinks or behind appliances. 100 dB siren + LED strobe + instant iPhone alert when water is detected. No hub required — connects directly to your home Wi-Fi.
  • Alerts From Anywhere — When the sensor touches water, you get a push notification on your iPhone through the free AQUILA PRO AI app. The master unit simultaneously blasts a loud siren and flashes an LED strobe. Optional Google Assistant voice announcements.
  • Expandable Whole-Home Monitoring — Add up to 16 additional battery-powered sensor pods (SW-A2) for a total of 17 monitored locations: water heater, sump pump, under every sink, behind toilets, washing machine, dishwasher, refrigerator, and bathtub.
  • Pair With a Nest Camera for Visual Monitoring — For extended vacations or long-distance caregiving, place a Google Nest Cam near the water heater or under the sink area. If the D-Link sensor alerts you to a leak, open the Nest Cam on your iPhone to see real-time video of the situation before calling a plumber or neighbor.

Why Caregivers and Seniors Need Smart Water Leak Sensors

When an aging parent lives alone, small household problems can escalate quickly. A water heater that develops a slow drip in the basement may leak for days before anyone notices. A loose hose fitting under the kitchen sink can flood the cabinet overnight. If the parent has mobility challenges, cognitive decline, or simply does not check the basement regularly, the damage compounds silently.

For caregivers who do not live with their aging parent — or who travel for work or family vacations — a smart water leak sensor provides 24/7 monitoring and real-time alerts directly to your phone. You do not need to be in the house to know something is wrong.

Caregiver Tip: Place the master unit near the water heater in the basement (where it can plug into an outlet and sound the 100 dB alarm). Place the battery-powered pod under the kitchen sink. If you want additional coverage, add pods behind the washing machine, under the bathroom sink, and near the sump pump. The system supports up to 17 total sensors.

Product Spotlight: D-Link Wi-Fi Water Leak Sensor Starter Kit (One Wired Kit and One Battery-Operated Pod are shown in the pictures)

  • Two Sensors Included: The starter kit comes with one AC-powered master unit (with a 1.5 ft water sensing cable and 3 ft extension cable) and one battery-powered wireless remote sensor pod. Monitor two high-risk areas out of the box.
  • Multi-Alert System: When water touches a sensor, you receive four simultaneous alerts: (1) push notification to your iPhone via the AQUILA PRO AI app, (2) 100 dB siren on the master unit, (3) flashing LED strobe light, and (4) optional Google Assistant voice announcement through a connected speaker.
  • No Hub Required: Connects directly to your existing home Wi-Fi. No separate hub, bridge, or subscription required. Zero monthly fees.
  • Sub-GHz Long-Range Connectivity: The wireless connection between the master unit and remote pods reaches up to 300 ft indoors and up to 1,000 ft in open space. This is designed for large homes where the water heater may be in a distant basement.
  • Expandable Up to 17 Sensors: Add up to 16 additional battery-powered remote pods (SW-A2, sold separately) for whole-home coverage. Each pod runs on two AAA batteries that can last up to 2 years.
  • IP65 Water-Resistant Pods: The remote sensor pods are rated IP65 for water and dust resistance. Four metal probes on the bottom detect water quickly and reliably.
  • Works With Google Assistant: Link the system to a Google Nest speaker and it will announce when a leak is detected — helpful for seniors at home who may not check their phone.
  • D-Link Quality: D-Link has over 39 years of experience in Wi-Fi connectivity products. 1-year manufacturer warranty included.

Quick Setup Guides

Ask a caregiver, family member, or neighbor to help with initial placement. Once set up, the system runs automatically and requires no daily maintenance.

Master Unit — Near the Water Heater (Basement)

  • Plug the master unit into a wall outlet near the water heater or in any area where water damage is most likely.
  • Extend the 1.5 ft sensing cable (plus the 3 ft extension) along the floor near the base of the water heater where a leak would pool first.
  • Download the free AQUILA PRO AI app on your iPhone. Open the app, tap “Add Device,” and follow the on-screen instructions to connect the master unit to your Wi-Fi network. The app supports multiple home locations — so you can monitor your own home and your parent’s home from a single app on one iPhone.
  • The green LED on the master unit will glow when the sensor is active and connected.
  • Caregiver Tip: Make sure the master unit is plugged into an outlet that stays powered at all times. If the outlet is controlled by a light switch, use a different outlet.

Remote Sensor Pod — Under the Kitchen Sink

  • Place the battery-powered pod flat on the shelf or floor directly under the kitchen sink drain pipe, where leaks commonly pool.
  • The pod connects wirelessly to the master unit — no plug or wiring needed. Two pre-installed AAA batteries last up to 2 years. Buy the Energizer Ultimate Lithium AAA battery that we discussed in GoldieCircle to have a long-lasting battery life.
  • In the AQUILA PRO AI app, the pod will appear as a linked sensor. You can name it (e.g., “Kitchen Sink”) for easy identification when alerts arrive.
  • Caregiver Tip: Check every 6 months that the pod has not shifted position and that the battery level is still healthy in the app.

Set Up iPhone Alerts (You + Family)

  • In the AQUILA PRO AI app: enable push notifications. Verify in iPhone Settings → Notifications → AQUILA PRO AI that notifications are turned ON.
  • Share app access with other family members so multiple caregivers receive alerts simultaneously.
  • Tip: Turn OFF “Do Not Disturb” or add AQUILA PRO AI as an exception so you don’t miss nighttime leak alerts.
  • Optional: For visual monitoring, place a Google Nest Cam near the water heater or under the kitchen sink area. If the D-Link sensor sends a leak alert, open the Nest Cam on your iPhone to see real-time video before dispatching help.

Things to Consider

  • The system requires a working Wi-Fi connection to send smartphone alerts. If the internet goes down, the local 100 dB siren and LED strobe will still activate, but phone notifications will not be sent until Wi-Fi is restored.
  • The master unit must be plugged into an AC outlet. The remote pods are battery-powered (2 x AAA)
  • The SW-A11KT is a new 2025 model and is not compatible with older D-Link water sensors (DCH-161-US, DCH-S1621KT, DCH-S163).
  • This sensor detects water leaks but does not shut off the water supply automatically. For automatic shutoff, a smart water valve (sold separately by other manufacturers) would be needed. Recommend to turn off water valve if you are going on vacation.
  • Strong Wi-Fi signal at the master unit location is essential. If the basement has poor Wi-Fi, add a mesh Wi-Fi extender.
