Easter Island With Kids Starts With a Smarter Plan

The giant moai are the reason to go. The plan around them is what makes the trip work for a family. Before you book Easter Island with children or aging parents, check the paperwork, the guide and the walking involved.
Use one island hotel, arrange guided outings and leave afternoons open. Add a Santiago stop before the journey home. The entry form and park ticket are separate steps, and an accessible hotel room does not make every archaeological site accessible.
Our Family Week on Rapa Nui
My wife and I traveled with our three children from November 30 to December 7, 2024. We stayed at Nayara Hangaroa on Easter Island, then flew to Santiago on December 5. Our final two nights were at The Singular Santiago before our December 7 departure for home.
For grandparents joining a future trip, I would build each day around the person who needs the most rest. A shorter outing leaves room for everyone to enjoy the evening together.
What Most Families Miss
The form has a short window. Current Chile Travel guidance says to complete the Single Entry Form, or FUI, within 48 hours before the flight to Rapa Nui. Bring your return ticket and confirmation of registered accommodation. Recheck the rules before departure.
Book the guide with the outing. The park requires an entry ticket and a Ma’u Henua-accredited guide. Rano Raraku and Orongo each allow one visit per ticket, so choose those days carefully. Stay on marked paths and keep hands off the moai and ceremonial platforms.
Ask about the whole route. Nayara’s excursion booklet describes uneven volcanic terrain. Before committing, ask about walking distance, slopes, toilets, seating and getting in and out of the vehicle. A tour called easy may still be unsuitable for someone using a wheelchair.
Choose the Room Before the View
Both Nayara Hangaroa and The Singular Santiago advertise accessible room features. Confirm the exact room, bathroom setup, step-free route and transfer vehicle directly. Ask about adjoining rooms and included amenities.

A Slower Two Week Itinerary
An optional 14-night plan for a future trip, separate from our 2024 week. Spend the first three nights in Santiago before moving to Rapa Nui. Each sightseeing day has one or two activities, with time at the hotel afterward.

AI-illustrated suggested flight and guided transfer route. Locations and paths are schematic and not to scale.
Fly out Friday evening if connections allow a Saturday arrival. If leaving Saturday morning, shift the schedule to match your actual arrival. Plan a Saturday return departure where available; overnight flights may leave only Sunday at home before work. Add time off if you want two full recovery days.
The Daily Plan

A gentle daily plan |
|---|---|
Days 1 to 3 |

Days 4 to 6 |
Day 4: fly SCL to IPC and settle at Nayara Hangaroa. Day 5: guided Ahu Tongariki and Rano Raraku. Day 6: hotel rest, with an optional short Hanga Roa outing. |
Days 7 to 10 |
Day 7: Anakena outing. Day 8: guided Rano Kau and Orongo, subject to mobility needs. Day 9: rest, then Tahai sunset if practical. Day 10: flexible hotel day or a short cultural activity. |
Days 11 to 14 |
Day 11: fly IPC to SCL and rest. Day 12: Bellas Artes and a café. Day 13: a short Lastarria shopping outing. Day 14: hotel time and packing. Suggested base: The Singular Santiago. |
Day 15 |
Fly home from Santiago on Saturday, choosing morning departure only if a workable routing exists. Check the U.S. arrival date before booking. |
Choose private or small-group guided vehicle outings and request child seats and any mobility equipment space in advance. Confirm current opening hours and each stop’s access with your guide. Sightseeing suggestions draw on the official park and Chile Travel; the pacing is GoldieCircle’s suggested plan.
Goldie’s Table of Travel Packing Options
Choose what your family will use. These are current packing ideas, not equipment from our 2024 trip. Check the model, fit and instructions. Bring comfortable shoes, a light rain layer and personal essentials too.

Product |
Why it may help and what to check |
Product or guidance link |
|---|---|---|
First Alert smoke and CO alarm |
Choose a battery model and follow its placement instructions; a packed alarm does not replace hotel safety systems. |
Apple AirTag and protective holder |
May help locate your luggage or stroller through Find My; secure the tag and use it for belongings, not people. |
UPPAbaby single or double stroller |
Choose the size your family needs and check age limits, airline rules, vehicle storage, and suitability for uneven paths. |
LÍLLÉbaby Complete All Seasons carrier |
A carrier can help where a stroller is awkward; follow the size limits and keep your baby’s face and airway clear. |
Vilebrequin adult and children’s rashguards |
Choose a labeled UPF garment for covered skin and continue using sunscreen on exposed skin as directed. |
Insect Shield clothing and OFF! repellent |
Check each clothing and repellent label for protection, age limits, and directions before packing for outdoor outings. |
Hawaiian Tropic and Babyganics sunscreen |
Choose a formula suitable for each traveler and follow its application directions alongside shade and protective clothing. |
Baby digital thermometer |
Pack an age-appropriate thermometer and follow its instructions and your pediatrician’s guidance on how to use it. |
Nasal aspirator and refill filters |
Pack the familiar aspirator and compatible spare filters, then clean and replace parts as the manufacturer directs. |
Folding toddler toilet seat |
An optional aid for unfamiliar toilets; check the fit, supervise your child, and clean it before repacking. |
Diapers or Pull-Ups |
Bring your child’s usual size and style, plus extras for flight delays and longer outings. |
Baby wipes |
Handy for diaper changes and everyday messes; baby wipes are not surface disinfectants. |
Swim diapers |
Pack them if needed for swimming, but change them promptly and remember that they are not leak-proof. |
Swim trainer or approved child life jacket |
Do not treat a swim trainer as a life jacket; choose an approved, properly fitted life jacket and maintain close supervision. |
Nursing cover |
An optional privacy layer for feeding; keep your baby’s face visible and avoid overheating. |
U.S. outlet covers: U.S. stops only |
These covers are for compatible U.S. outlets; ask the hotel about suitable protection for Chilean sockets. |
Blue painter’s tape |
Useful for temporary labels; it is not a substitute for outlet protection, corner guards, or securing blind cords. |
Flexible bandages and rolled gauze |
Small additions to a basic travel first-aid kit for minor scrapes; pack the family’s usual supplies. |
Mosquito net |
Check sleeping arrangements before packing and use only a securely fitted net that stays out of a child’s reach. |
Waterproof phone pouch |
Check the listed water limits, test the seal before use, and keep a backup of your photographs. |
Maui Jim polarized sunglasses |
Can reduce glare during outdoor outings; check UV protection, fit, and lens details on the exact model. |
D-Link water sensor kit |
An optional item for a longer stay; check power, setup, and Wi-Fi requirements before relying on remote alerts. |
EPICKA power adapter |
Check compatibility with Chile’s C/L sockets and 220V supply; an adapter changes the plug connection, not the voltage. |
USB-A to USB-C cable and USB-C EarPods |
Match the connectors to your devices and charging ports; wired EarPods do not need separate charging. |
Carrier international day or monthly plan |
Confirm Chile and Rapa Nui coverage, data allowances, call charges, and activation with your carrier before departure. |
Bottom Line
Memories are priceless. If your family can travel together now, make room for it at a pace everyone can enjoy. You worked hard for this time together. One remarkable sight and an unhurried meal can be enough for a day.
